Transportation can be defined as the movement of goods, persons and animals from one point to another by various means.
Although the means and modes of transportation can be quite related, it is important to state that both are different terminologies.
The mode of transportation refers to the medium on which transportation movement occur. These can be via road, rail, water or air.
However, the means of transportation simple imply the objects through which transportation is achieved; and each have got their respective mode of transportation. In this case, cars, trains, ships and airplanes are all means of transportation.
Juxtaposing both terms (means and modes of transportation), land is a mode of transportation and its means can be through a car, bus or lorry.
In ancient times, the major means of transportation was by foot and riding on animals. Presently, the world has developed to have different means of transportation.

1. Road Transportation: Means of transportation like cars, motorcycles, bicycles, lorries, buses and trucks all utilize the road as their mode of transport.

2. Rail Transportation: Trains are the means of transportation here. They can convey a large number of people and goods within and outside a country.
In Nigeria, the first rail lines were constructed between 1890 - 1930. It covered a distance of about 3,500 kilometers and was primarily built for the movement of agricultural produce at that point in time.
Nowadays, trains can be very fast and can also travel between countries. Regardless their speed, railway transport are considered by many as the least prone to accident amongst all the means of transportation.

Water bodies involved in transportation are the oceans, seas and the inland water ways.
The inland water ways run or flow within a country. They include the rivers, lakes, lagoons and canals.
Within Nigeria, Lagos, Portharcourt, Delta and Calabar all have their respective ports where products from ocean transport are brought into the country. For this reason, water mode of transport is ideal for international (or foreign) trade, especially when the movement of bulky goods are involved.

With regards to comfort and speed, this is the most efficient and fastest mode of transportation. Aeroplanes, helicopter, jets and spaceships utilize air as means of transportation.
Although expensive, air mode of transport is very crucial internationally, especially in relation to business, governmental, leisure and sport activities.
Transportation by air is not as prone to accidents when compared to road transport.
This mode of transportation convey liquid and gaseous products from one point to another, within and outside a country.

Social Studies is defined as an integrated study on the interaction of human beings with their physical and social environments.
We can think of our environment as everything that surrounds us at any point in time. For instance, the soil, air, your clothes, phone and everything surrounding you right now are all part of your environment. (That is, they make up your environment).
Physical environment describes every visible thing around us. It could be water, air, soil, clothes, phones or all other things found around us.
Social environment on the other hand describes the various social roles or positions that influence an individual or a group. It is represented in our culture, norms, values, the people and various institutions with whom we interact with. Meanwhile, understand that social media applications like facebook, twitter, instagram, youtube and the likes present a social environment where people can interact with one another regardless their geographical location around the world.
