Do you know that failure to forgive our brothers, sisters and neighbors can actually act as a barricade to the gifts we offer to God? Yes, God is more interested in our hearts compared to the gifts we offer. Jesus affirmed to this when he said:
Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.
Matthew 5:23-24
Pondering on the words of Jesus, 'to err becomes human while to forgive reflects divinity'. Consequently, just as it is better to give than to receive, forgiveness also benefits the forgiver than the forgiven.

While teaching the people the sermon on the mount (Matthew 5). Jesus stated categorically that those who forgive and show mercy are blessed; and they will obtain mercy in return.

The point is: We must practice the act of forgiveness as often as possible because our life in itself is a function of God's mercy. In all sincerely, our forgiveness on those who hurt us is a prerequisite for our salvation.

During the life of Jesus, the Pharisee decided to put him to the test and once again, Jesus saw this as an excellent means to showcase the power of forgiveness (John 8:1-11).
In the above bible passage, a woman was brought before Jesus. This woman had been caught in the very act of adultery and was to be stoned to death according to the Jewish law.
Interestingly, the pharisees and their followers probably had stones in the hands; but waiting for Jesus' reaction in an attempt to trap him by his words, while also carrying out their unforgiving act on the woman afterwards.
Teacher, ' they said to Jesus, 'this woman was caught in the act of adultery. The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?'.
John 8:4-5
They kept pressurizing Jesus for an answer but eventually he showed that none of them was innocent and as such had no right to stone her to death. He said and I quote:
Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.

At hearing Jesus' words, they began to leave one after the other, beginning with the elders.
Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, 'Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?'

Understand that through this very act, Jesus modified the Mosaic law of 'stoning to death a woman caught in the act of adultery' with forgiveness.
Note: This very act of forgiveness from Jesus transformed the woman's life and she became a perfect example of what his followers should be.

Jesus always knew the very importance of forgiveness and for this reason, he gave his apostles the power to forgive sin.
If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.

It is noteworthy that to forgive and be forgiven has numerous implications on our lives. The importance of forgiveness are fundamental to our physical and spiritual lives respectively. They include the following:
Forgiveness earns us God's blessing. Amazingly, an unforgiven spirit is a major factor holding certain people backwards regarding the successes of their lives.
The act of forgiveness can heal us of our illnesses
Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.
James 5:14-15
Forgiveness heals the hurt and pains in our heart and soul.
Medically, forgiveness lowers the risk of heart attack, improves cholesterol levels and sleep. It also lowers the blood pressure and anxiety thus eliminating depression and stress in the long run.
Forgiveness is an act of love and love covers a multitude of sins
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins.

Forgiveness fosters unity and unity brings forth achievements.

I can go on and on but the point still remains that our forgiveness from God is dependent on us based on our actions with ourselves and others. In fact, the acts of our forgiveness will go a long way into tapping from Jesus' overall forgiving action on the cross.
Forgiveness is a 'two way traffic'. The ultimate sacrifice of forgiveness had been offered by Jesus on the cross but nevertheless, we must emulate his actions of forgiveness on that cross in order to obtain God's mercy.
Note: The fire of the holy spirit brings about love, forgiveness, hope and other christian virtues. We should not invoke it in an attempt to curse or condemn or judge our enemies. The bible affirmed this in Luke 6:37. It states:
Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

The parable of the prodigal son as narrated by Jesus himself is one that shows God's incomprehensible mercy and love. This parable is present in the gospel of Luke 15: 11-32.
Jesus began by saying:
There was once a man who had two sons. The younger one said to him, 'Father, give me my share of the property now'. So the man divided his properties between his two sons.

From the above passage, it is quite clear that the younger brother had lost interest in the family's affairs. He must have pondered in his heart the sweetness of complete independence on a life of financial abundance.
To actualize his thoughts, he had the effrontery to go to his father to request for his inheritance even though his father is fully alive and active.

Adam and Eve disobeyed God while in the Garden of Eden. Below are the consequences of Adam and Eve's disobedience:
All God's creature became guilty of original sin.
Human perfection was lost.
God's judgement was pronounced on the snake, woman and man.
Chaos and disorderliness came upon earth.

Wise men from the east came to visit the infant king. Upon their arrival, they saw the child with his mother Mary. They knelt down and worshiped the infant (Jesus).

Gold represents a symbol of Jesus' kingship. Jesus is the King of kings, even at birth and throughout eternity.
Frankincense represents a symbol of Jesus' divinity and a sign of worship. Only God can be worshipped; and as such, Jesus is fully God.
Myrrh represents a symbol of Jesus' death. Jesus is truly man, and this is why he was able to suffer and die on the cross.
God created human beings for the following reasons:

To be happy with Him forever
Our first parent, Adam and Eve enjoyed a life of complete happiness before they committed sin. They never knew what pain nor sorrow was until they disobeyed God. In short, both were perfect beings until they committed the sin of disobedience against God.
Disobedience may simple be defined as the failure to obey rules, command or someone in authority.
Adam and Eve were the first human beings to disobey God.
