The creation of our first parents as presented in Genesis 1:26-31 was an epitome of perfection. By this, I imply that God graced Adam and Eve with His glory and perfection during creation. Quoting the above bible verse, it is noteworthy to emphasize that Adam and Eve were made in the image and likeness of God.
This image and likeness of God within us are more perceived in our souls. In this regard, the main similarities between the image of humans and God emanates from the two facts below:
The soul of human is immortal (cannot die), just as God cannot die.
The human soul is a spirit, just as God is spirit. In fact, God is a supreme spirit who alone exists of Himself and is infinite in all perfection.
Although the above paragraph establishes the fact that all humans are made in God's image and likeness; however, a key difference still exists between us and our first parents. This difference lies upon the foundation that Adam and Eve were spotless (and without sin) during their creation. They lived in God's garden where God Himself often took a walk in the cool of the day. They could even hear the sound of God's footsteps.
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, 'Where are you?'

Unfortunately, our first parents lost these privileges of God's personal presence after they committed sin against Him through an act of disobedience. They were cursed and banished from the garden of Eden, thus giving rise to the origin of our sufferings.

Unlike Adam and Eve, you (and I) were conceived in sin. This sin, called mortal sin, isn't committed by us; rather, it is inherited from our very first parents, Adam and Eve. The resultant pain and chaos in our world today is a result of this inherited sin, alongside other sins committed by our very own actions. Therefore, the adverse consequences of the first human disobedience serves as the source of an old life. Simple put, our old life originated from Adam and Eve's disobedience.

In contrast to the old life which originated from the disobedience of Adam and Eve, the new life originated from the obedience of Jesus. This new life in Christ is the ultimate goal of our purpose on earth, and is particularly initiated through baptism, as clearly stated by Jesus himself. It states thus:
Jesus Christ gave us a new life through his birth, sufferings, death on the cross, and eventual resurrection. In literal words, he saved mankind from death, which was a consequence of the old life. Therefore, Jesus Christ is life himself, and he clearly described himself as such in the bible verse below:
In the old testament, God gave Moses the ten commandments. Enough emphasis was laid on these commandments, describing its entire obedience as paramount. God's law and command was extremely important to an extent that He instructed them to have it at heart, and meditate upon it everyday. This is quoted in the bible verse below:
Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Joshua 1:7-8
It is a popular belief that the Torah (Law) contains a whooping 613 commandments, even though God gave to Prophet Moses the ten commandments in Exodus 20:1-17. However, Jesus simplified these commandments into two. The new life in Christ hinges on the adherence to the two ultimate commands of Jesus. Both commands of Jesus therefore summarizes the Torah and Prophets. They are quoted below:
Note: St. Paul reiterated the importance of Jesus' commands when he stated that of all the virtues, love is the greatest. In this light, the practice of love for God and neighbor defines the newness of our lives in Christ Jesus.
The characteristics of the new life are reflected in the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Jesus emphasized these instructions to his disciples in John 14:15-31. Below are some notable deductions from the aforementioned bible verses:
If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever; the Spirit of truth - John 14:15-17.
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you - John 14:26.
The fruits of the Holy Spirit are visible on those who live a new life in Christ. In fact, they are the main characteristics of the new life in Jesus. Below are the twelve fruits of the Holy Spirit:

The parable of the prodigal son as narrated by Jesus himself is one that shows God's incomprehensible mercy and love. This parable is present in the gospel of Luke 15: 11-32.
Jesus began by saying:
There was once a man who had two sons. The younger one said to him, 'Father, give me my share of the property now'. So the man divided his properties between his two sons.
Luke 15: 11-12
From the above passage, it is quite clear that the younger brother had lost interest in the family's affairs. He must have pondered in his heart the sweetness of complete independence on a life of financial abundance.
To actualize his thoughts, he had the effrontery to go to his father to request for his inheritance even though his father is fully alive and active.

Adam and Eve disobeyed God while in the Garden of Eden. Below are the consequences of Adam and Eve's disobedience:
All God's creature became guilty of original sin.
Human perfection was lost.
God's judgement was pronounced on the snake, woman and man.
Chaos and disorderliness came upon earth.
Suffering, pain and death was introduced into the world.
The first prophesy was made.
Clothing was made.
Paradise was temporarily lost.
Their disobedience brought about the relevation of Jesus Christ.

Wise men from the east came to visit the infant king. Upon their arrival, they saw the child with his mother Mary. They knelt down and worshiped the infant (Jesus).
Notice that the bible recorded that the wise men knelt down and worshipped the infant (Jesus), according to Matthew 2:11.
Only God can be worshiped. Jesus is always God, even as a baby.
It is important to state that Jesus remained God at every point in his physical existence, even when he was in the womb of the virgin; throughout his life on earth, death on the cross and eventual resurrection.
The wise men from the east opened their treasures and presented the infant Jesus with three significant gifts. These are gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Gold represents a symbol of Jesus' kingship. Jesus is the King of kings, even at birth and throughout eternity.
Frankincense represents a symbol of Jesus' divinity and a sign of worship. Only God can be worshipped; and as such, Jesus is fully God.
Myrrh represents a symbol of Jesus' death. Jesus is truly man, and this is why he was able to suffer and die on the cross.
God created human beings for the following reasons:
To know Him
To love Him
To serve Him
To be happy with Him forever
Our first parent, Adam and Eve enjoyed a life of complete happiness before they committed sin. They never knew what pain nor sorrow was until they disobeyed God. In short, both were perfect beings until they committed the sin of disobedience against God.
Disobedience may simple be defined as the failure to obey rules, command or someone in authority.
Adam and Eve were the first human beings to disobey God.
