A citizen is a person who belongs to a specific country and enjoys all the rights and privileges as defined in the country's constitution; and thus is obliged to obey the country's law in fulfillment to his or her duties and responsibilities when called upon.

All citizens aged 18 years and above are entitled to vote and be voted for in a democratized society.

Personally, I have seen and heard people make statements like: 'after all, my vote does not count because the country is corrupt, therefore I will not vote'.
It is important to categorically state that 'to vote and be voted for is a fundamental human right of each citizen of a country or nation'. To this end, we should endeavor to always exercise this right because it is the most important manner through which corruption can be eradicated. As a matter of fact, it is politically inappropriate for a citizen not to vote.
When the citizens of a country constantly pay their tax, such country will become a better place to live in, especially when the voted leaders are not corrupt.
As good citizens, we must not wait until the government pressurises us to pay our tax. Understand that the payment of tax is one of our fundamental human right; and it becomes a punishable offence whenever we fail in this regard.

Every country have got their unique national symbols.
By definition, a national symbol is a symbol that manifest a nation, state or country to the world as a national community.
Examples of national symbols include the national anthem, national pledge and the national flag of a nation.
When we sing our national anthem, we express a solemn promise. We must therefore try at all times to live in accordance to the lyrics of our national anthem.
It is the responsibility of each citizen to defend or even die for their country if the need arises.

Community service is a service performed by an individual or group for the benefit of the community or its institutions without any form of payment.
Volunteer service is a service that is done for others (not including family members and close friends) out of one's free will and without any form of payment or reward.

Considering Nigeria as another instance, all graduates from tertiary institutions are mandated to serve their motherland (Nigeria) through a scheme termed 'National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)'.
As good citizens, it is our responsibility to report criminal activities to the appropriate authorities, for instance, the police.
Understand that a reason why internet fraud thrives in our society is because the cyber criminals are not reported to the police by those who are aware of their shady acts.

The act of breaking a law (let's say traffic law for instance), may lead to the loss of lives and properties. This is true because motorists who break traffic rules by running above the recommended speed limit may eventually end up in devastating accidents. Unfortunately, such sad event happens on a daily basis.
This is an important and sensitive responsibility of a citizen since the justification and accusation of one or more persons may be involved.

All human beings are entitled to a fundamental, inalienable, non-discriminatory, indivisible and universal rights which is termed human rights.
These fundamental rights of humans will allow each and every one of us to live in freedom, equality, fairness, respect, peace and justice.
There is neither discrimination nor distinction in human rights. It doesn't matter if you are are white or black, a Nigerian or a Chinese, male or female, physically challenged or physically complete, rich or poor, yoruba, igbo or hausa, christian, muslim, hindu or an atheist.
The point is: 'we all share the same human rights'.

A citizen has the following rights:
You have the entire right and privileges as defined in your country’s law.
No one can take away your citizenship.
You can hold a passport from your country of citizenship.
You can pass your citizenship to your children.
You don’t have to fulfill any minimum stay to become a citizen.
Provided you have the passport of your country of citizenship, you are free to travel to any country which your country has travel agreement with.
You can have dual citizenship.
A legal resident in a country has the following attributes within that country:
They must provide their bio-metric information.
They can enter their country of residence on many occasions. However, when they break any of the residents’ status, they may be denied further entry into the country of residence.
They are able to freely live, study, work and travel within their country of residence.
They will still utilize their international passport (from their country of citizenship) for travels, but not their resident card or permit.
They can become a resident after fulfilling their stay requirement. As an instance, one may become a resident when they had lived for 10 years in a country without any issues.
They can only naturalize (become a citizen) after faithfully living as a resident throughout the required number of years.
They can lose their residential status when convicted for serious crimes.
