Healthy Self-esteem:

A healthy self-esteem falls in the borderline of a low self-esteem and an excessively high self-esteem.

Recall that self-esteem is defined an overview of how a person sees and carries himself or herself. It can be low, healthy or overly high.

Please read on the introduction to self-esteem here.

You can read on low self-esteem and its characteristics here.

A healthy self-esteem gives a balanced and accurate view of oneself. Also, it is important to state that people who display excessive pride alongside their actions lack a healthy self-esteem. Pride in itself can be a vice (negative value) and this is expressed in the popular saying that goes thus: 'pride goes before a fall'.

Please read on values in civic education here.

On the contrary, a humble person does not necessarily have a low esteem. For instance, the fact that a rich and famous man spends some of his time with the poor, lowly and despondent does not mean he has a low self-esteem. In fact, this very action of his may even affect (positively) the self-esteem of the poor who had been visited.

Please read on low self-esteem and its causes here.

People with a healthy self-esteem will always believe in themselves. They don't write themselves off regardless the situation. In addition, they respect others, no matter their state in life and in return see themselves as deserving of respect.

Please read on reputation and how to build a good reputation here.

A healthy self-esteem is not only experienced in success. It is also displayed in temporary failures. For instance, a student who was only able to conclude 50% of her assignment due to a sudden health breakdown can still display a healthy self-esteem.

  • In the above instance, if the student of reference has a healthy self-esteem, she will be glad of her achievement. Such a student wouldn't look down on herself in comparison to those who did 100% of the assignment. This is so because she understands that she has done her best and will continue do so in her academic endeavors.

Social Studies is defined as an integrated study on the interaction of human beings with their physical and social environments.

We can think of our environment as everything that surrounds us at any point in time. For instance, the soil, air, your clothes, phone and everything surrounding you right now are all part of your environment. (That is, they make up your environment).

Physical environment describes every visible thing around us. It could be water, air, soil, clothes, phones or all other things found around us.

Social environment on the other hand describes the various social roles or positions that influence an individual or a group. It is represented in our culture, norms, values, the people and various institutions with whom we interact with. Meanwhile, understand that social media applications like facebook, twitter, instagram, youtube and the likes present a social environment where people can interact with one another regardless their geographical location around the world.
